Roll Back Malaria visit to Canberra

The UN Information Centre Canberra coordinated a visit from the Roll Back Malaria delegation, which included board member Dr. Graham Brown, external relations manager Herve Verhoosel, and external relations officer Geoffrey So, during the week of 27 February. UNIC scheduled a morning meeting with Jane Halton, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Ageing, joined by Chief Medical Officer Jim Bishop and Assistant Secretary for International Strategies Alice Creelman. In the afternoon, UNIC coordinated meetings with Praweena Gunaratnan, Health and HIV Programs Manager for AusAID.

On 2 March, UNIC Director Christopher Woodthorpe escorted the delegation to meetings with MP Julie Owens, co-chair of the Parliamentary Friends of the MDGs, and Senator Claire Moore, followed by Daniel Sloper, head of DFAT Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Policy Taskforce. After a meeting with the Australian Council for International Development, UNIC arranged a session with His Excellency Mr. Molosiwa Selepeng of the High Commission of the Republic of Botswana.

UNIC also offered communications support to Roll Back Malaria, briefing the organisation on the Australian media outlook, advising strategies, creating press releases for targeted media, and assisting with a press briefing in Melbourne.
