On 18th of July, the United Nations Information Centre, together with the South African High Commission, and Marymead Child and Family Centre, a community based not-for-profit organisation, officially celebrated Nelson Mandela Day in Australia. At the event, UNIC Director Mr Christopher Woodthorpe paid homage to Nelson Mandela and read out the Secretary-General message for the Day.
As part of official proceedings participants devoted 67 minutes of their time, one minute for every year of Mr. Mandela’s public service, to plant a number of edible native plants and South African proteas. All those attending were delighted to be part of this inaugural global campaign.
