Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) report laucnh 2011

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) report for 2011 was officially launched in Australia on the 7th of July by UNIC Canberra Director Christopher Woodthorpe together with a panel of experts consisting of Dr Susan Harris Rimmer and Ahmed Moustafa from the UNDP Pacific Centre.

Providing the report's outline, Mr Woodthorpe highlighted that significant strides towards achieving the MDGs have been made, yet reaching all the goals by the 2015 deadline remains challenging because the world’s poorest are being left behind.

Dr Susan Harris Rimmer provided an NGO perspective on the MDGs, while MDGs & Poverty Team Leader at UNDP Pacific Centre, Ahmed Moustafa offered a unique field office perspective on the successes of MDGs in the pacific.

Following the official presentations a lively question and answer session followed focusing on the disparity of the growth of urban and rural migration within states.

Overall the launch received positive feedback and was well attended by a cross section of academics, government officials, the diplomatic community and general public.
