The United Nations Information Centre Director, Mr Christopher Woodthorpe, together with the Canberra Institute of Technology and the Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG) officially launched the Canberra Institute of Technology photo competition in celebration of the International Year of Forests. The event, held amongst the lush ferns of the National Botanic Garden’s tropical forest, was attended by local media as well as all the competing students.
The competition will provide students with an opportunity to reflect on both the challenges faced in sustaining forests and also on possible solutions. It will also focus on individuals who act as guardians of the environment; forest heroes.
The student photographs will be assessed as part of the students’ coursework and presented at two major public exhibitions scheduled to be hosted by the High Court of Australia in September and at the ANBG during December.
The overall portfolio winner will receive an international photographic internship with the United Nations in the Pacific region. Category winners will receive internships with the ANGB, the Australian Capital Territory Government’s National Arboretum and the Canberra Times.
