The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Canberra and the Regional office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) set up an information stall at the Multicultural Festival in Canberra on 6 February 2010.
The festival, an annual event, showcases a vast assortment of cultures through music, dance, food and information stalls. This year the attendance was over 70,000 with the UNIC stall attracting great interest.
Staff from UNIC Canberra were able to showcase many UN publications and key UN campaigns, including the Secretary Generals Stop Violence Against Women Campaign, the International Year of Biodiversity, and the UN4U outreach program.
The festival was a good opportunity for the UNIC staff to interact with festival visitors and to provide them with information on the work of the UN.
