Experts in their particular fields, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are indispensable partners in facilitating UN efforts at the country level. They provide valuable links to civil society, and play a key role at major United Nations conferences.
Since UNIC Canberra’s small office covers not only Australia, but also Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu, partnerships with regional NGOs and other civil society organizations help extend its awareness raising activities beyond the boundaries of Canberra.
There are two main categories for which NGOs can apply for special association with the United Nations:
NGOs and the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) Application procedure Directory of NGOs in association with DPI NGOs and the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Application procedure Database of NGOs associated with ECOSOC
